The Pittsburgh Steelers are agreeing to trade cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-rounder, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Schefter’s report, citing ESPN’s Brooke Pryor and Todd Archer, describes an agreement rather than an official completion of the deal.
Porter played 14 games for Pittsburgh in 2025-26 and recorded 52 total tackles, including 35 solo tackles. He also had one sack, one interception and 14 passes defended. Those figures frame the production Dallas would reportedly be acquiring from a cornerback who has been part of a defense with a strong EPA standing.
Pittsburgh is 2-1 and ranks fourth in defensive EPA among 32 teams, while its offense ranks 28th. EPA, or expected points added, measures how much plays affect a team’s scoring outlook; the Steelers’ rankings show a team whose defense has carried the stronger unit-level profile through three games.
Dallas is 1-2, with the Cowboys ranked third in offensive EPA and 32nd in defensive EPA among 32 teams. The reported trade would send Porter from Pittsburgh’s fourth-ranked EPA defense to a Cowboys roster whose offensive production has stood near the top of the league while its defensive EPA ranking sits at the bottom.

New Cowboys CB Joey Porter Jr. is headed to Dallas without a new contract. He will play for the Cowboys, as early as Sunday, without a new deal, but with both sides hoping and believing they will figure out a way to get it done. Cc: @tyschmit 🎧 https://t.co/w3Ld4bIE0y https://t.co/596OdLvWK8
