The New York Giants are releasing wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., according to FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz. ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reported the release, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport listed the Giants’ move involving OBJ among Wednesday’s headlines.
Schultz reported that Beckham had not been featured much despite earning a spot on the team, and that the sides decided a mutual parting was best. Schultz also reported that Beckham will not return to the Giants’ practice squad and that the hope is for him to find a situation with an opportunity to play.
What the numbers show
In 2026-27, Beckham has appeared in one game for New York and has one receiving target. The available Giants receiving data does not list a reception, receiving yardage or a touchdown for Beckham.
The Giants are 2-1 and rank 13th of 32 teams in offensive EPA. They rank 24th of 32 in defensive EPA. Beckham’s one target came within a New York offense that has produced a top-half EPA ranking through the team’s first three games.
The reports describe the move as a release and a mutual parting, rather than a return to New York’s practice squad. Schultz’s reporting says earning a roster spot this summer could help Beckham get another opportunity elsewhere.

Sources: The #Giants are releasing WR Odell Beckham Jr. OBJ has not been featured much despite earning a spot on the team, and the sides decided a mutual parting was best for everyone. This gives him an opportunity to catch on with a team in a better situation, where his talents can be better utilized.

My understanding is Odell Beckham Jr. will not be returning to the #Giants’ practice squad either. It’s all love between OBJ and the Giants organization, but the hope is that he can find a better situation where he’ll have an opportunity to play. The fact that he earned a roster spot this summer should help him get another shot.
