Report: Cowboys are signing cornerback Alex Austin

The Dallas Cowboys are signing cornerback Alex Austin, according to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, who reported Tuesday that the 25-year-old joins a defense that could use help in the back end. Schultz also reported that Austin has eight career pass breakups, two tackles for loss and one interception.

Keel Stats’ 2025-26 data lists Austin with the New England Patriots, where he appeared in five games. He recorded 13 total tackles, including 10 solo tackles, along with one tackle for loss and one pass defended. The season totals show a cornerback who has been involved around the ball both in tackling situations and in coverage.

Dallas enters the reported signing with a 1-2 record. The Cowboys rank third of 32 teams in offensive EPA and 32nd of 32 in defensive EPA, creating a sharp split between the club’s production on offense and its standing on defense through the data provided.

Austin’s 2025-26 totals provide a recent sample of five games, while Schultz’s report supplies the broader career figures: eight pass breakups, two tackles for loss and one interception. The reported addition places a player listed as a Patriot in Keel Stats’ season data alongside a Dallas team ranked last among 32 clubs in defensive EPA.
