Report: Giants trade for J.J. McCarthy after Harbaugh brothers spoke

The New York Giants reportedly are trading for quarterback J.J. McCarthy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Schefter also reported that Jim Harbaugh spoke with his brother, John Harbaugh, before the Giants’ move for McCarthy.

McCarthy played 10 games in 2025-26 and completed 140 of 243 passes for 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He took 27 sacks, a significant part of his passing workload in the data.

The quarterback also supplied production as a runner: 37 attempts for 181 yards and four touchdowns. He recorded six fumbles, including two lost fumbles, across those 10 games.

The Giants are 2-1 in Keel Stats’ 2025-26 team data. They rank 13th of 32 teams in offensive EPA and 24th of 32 in defensive EPA, placing McCarthy’s reported arrival alongside an offense that has graded better than its defense by those measures.
