Chiefs’ balanced attack tests Raiders’ opportunistic defense

Kansas City’s balanced efficiency meets Las Vegas’ knack for taking the ball away Sunday, October 4, when the undefeated Chiefs visit the undefeated Raiders. Kickoff is 4:25 PM ET at Allegiant Stadium, with both clubs at 3-0 and holding 1-0 division records.

The Chiefs have built a 29.3-point offense, eighth in the NFL, against a Raiders defense that has allowed 18 points per game, eighth. Efficiency against disruption

The Raiders are fifth against the pass and seventh against the run by efficiency, a defense with few obvious entry points even while allowing 220.7 passing yards per game, 14th, and 116.3 rushing yards, 20th.

The quarterbacks and the injury report

Patrick Mahomes has thrown for 812 yards and seven touchdowns in three games, and Travis Kelce has 231 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Kenneth Walker III gives Kansas City its rushing edge with 360 yards and two touchdowns on 65 attempts. On the other side, Kirk Cousins has 661 passing yards, nine touchdown passes and three interceptions, while Tre Tucker has 189 receiving yards.

Las Vegas’ ground game is the pressure point. The Raiders rank 32nd in rushing efficiency despite Ashton Jeanty’s 206 yards on 63 carries, and Kansas City ranks ninth against the run by efficiency while allowing 99.7 rushing yards per game, 10th. Cousins’ passing game is fifth in efficiency, but it faces a Chiefs pass defense ranked third that permits 183.7 yards per game, third fewest.

Raiders linebacker Nakobe Dean, who leads the team with 27 tackles, is questionable with a shoulder injury. Tight end Brock Bowers is questionable with a knee issue, and defensive end Kwity Paye is questionable; five more Raiders are questionable. Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed are questionable, while left tackle Josh Simmons is out with a back injury; three more Chiefs are questionable.

Setting and market

The Chiefs arrive after wins of 24-10 at Miami, 33-30 over Indianapolis and 31-10 over Denver. The Raiders have won 35-27 at New Orleans, 26-14 at the Los Angeles Chargers and 27-13 over Miami, with their defense producing the league’s best takeaway rate through three games.
