The Mavericks say Cooper Flagg underwent an MRI that revealed a mild left shoulder sprain. Flagg is out for tonight’s home opener against San Antonio and will be re-evaluated next week.

The Mavericks, I’m told, are expected to list Kyrie Irving as questionable for tonight’s home opener as part of Irving’s ongoing left knee injury management on Dallas’ first back-to-back of the season. Dallas is already without Cooper Flagg due to a mild left shoulder sprain. https://t.co/b9ic21mUs8

The Mavericks are now expected to soon rule out Kyrie Irving as well from tonight’s home opener … which would mean no Irving or Cooper Flagg for San Antonio’s visit. https://t.co/XsKMvrt2h7

The Mavericks have already upgraded Cooper Flagg (mild left shoulder sprain) to questionable for Monday’s game at Miami but have ruled out Naji Marshall against the Heat after illness forced Marshall to miss much of the second half of Saturday night’s home opener. https://t.co/b9ic21nshG

The Mavericks say CEO Rick Welts, who was lured out of retirement in December 2024 to lead the team’s new arena project, will step down at year’s end and be succeeded by former Timberwolves and 49ers CEO Ethan Casson on Jan. 1, 2027. Welts, 73, is a 2018 @Hoophall inductee who previously worked for the Warriors, Suns and league office dating the 1980s.

The Mavericks have exercised their Year 4 option for $17.3 million on Zaccharie Risacher.
Marc Stein@TheSteinLine · The Stein Line
The precise amount is $17.4 million and the Year 4 option ensures that former No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher does not become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Also: The deadline for such options has been moved leaguewide to Monday because Oct. 31 falls on Saturday. https://t.co/ysaopQMKkD
