Washington delivers late
Little’s 57-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Jacksonville Jaguars past the Philadelphia Eagles 19-17 on Sunday, October 11, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Parker Washington gave Jacksonville its finishing punch with six catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns, breaking free for a 51-yard score in the first quarter and a 27-yard go-ahead catch with 3:20 left. Trevor Lawrence found him both times while throwing for 331 yards and two touchdowns, and Washington’s late score erased Philadelphia’s 14-10 advantage after the Jaguars had spent much of the second half pressing for a breakthrough.
The Eagles had seized a 14-7 halftime lead behind Jalen Hurts’ 62-yard touchdown pass to Darius Cooper, whose two receptions produced 71 yards and a score. But Philadelphia could not turn that explosive moment into sustained control, even after Jacksonville’s 16-play second-quarter march ended on downs and Lawrence threw an interception in the third.
Jacksonville finally pulled within 14-10 on a 14-play, 69-yard possession that consumed 6:20 of the third quarter and ended with Little’s 34-yard field goal. After the Eagles stalled again, the Jaguars took over at their own 49 and needed five plays, 51 yards and 2:07 for Lawrence’s deep strike to Washington; Little missed the extra point, leaving a two-point game.
A final reversal
Philadelphia appeared to have the last word when Elliott made a 48-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining for a 17-16 lead. That kick pushed the Eagles’ win probability to 100%, but Jacksonville got the ball at Philadelphia’s 39 and Little answered at 0:00. His winner swung Jacksonville’s chance from 25% to 100% and completed a finish in which neither team led by more than seven.
The underlying numbers fit the Jaguars’ ability to keep coming. EPA is expected points added on each play, and Jacksonville posted 0.02 EPA per play with a 40% success rate, the share of plays with positive EPA, against Philadelphia’s -0.21 and 32%. Lawrence’s passing game produced 0.15 EPA per play, while Philadelphia’s rushing attack managed -0.74 per play and just 22 yards.
Hurts completed 21 of 40 for 220 yards and a touchdown without an interception, but the Eagles finished with 242 passing and rushing yards on 56 plays. Jalen Carter supplied two sacks for Philadelphia, while Foyesade Oluokun made 10 tackles for Jacksonville as the Jaguars held the Eagles to three fourth-quarter points.
Jacksonville moved to 4-1 and hosts the Houston Texans on Sunday, October 18. Philadelphia fell to 2-3 and hosts the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, October 18.
