Keel Stats team card: Portland Trail Blazers

Two players new to the NBA, Bennett Stirtz of the Thunder and Ja'Kobi Gillespie of the Spurs, scored 26 and 25 points Monday, October 12, but both teams lost preseason games.

Preseason results say little. The regular season starts Tuesday, October 20, so for now the interest is in who produced.

Atlanta beat Oklahoma City 113-110. Stirtz, new to the NBA and the Thunder, had 26 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Our outlook has Oklahoma City at 54 wins, second in the West, and the Hawks at 44, seventh in the East.

Brooks Barnhizer added 20 points and 8 rebounds for the Thunder. He rated -2.8 on Keel Impact last season in 349 minutes, so a big line is a good sign for him, nothing more.

Jock Landale, new to Atlanta from Memphis, had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. His Impact last season was -0.1, about average. Nickeil Alexander-Walker, at 2.8 last season, scored 16 with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Utah beat San Antonio 119-109. Our outlook ranks the Spurs first in the West at 56 wins and the Jazz 11th at 35, but one preseason night tells us little.

Gillespie, new to the NBA and the Spurs, scored 25 with 4 assists, and Harrison Barnes added 19. For Utah, Darryn Peterson, also new to the NBA, had 14 points and 5 assists.

Jaren Jackson Jr., new to the Jazz from Memphis, scored 13. His Impact last season was 1.

Portland beat the London Lions 119-66, and because the opponent was a club from abroad, the result carries even less weight. Scoot Henderson, who rated -0.7 on Impact last season in 748 minutes, scored 14, as did Toumani Camara, who rated 1.

Maxwell Lewis, new to the NBA, had 13 points and 5 rebounds for London. Our outlook has the Blazers at 39 wins, ninth in the West.

Brooklyn beat Washington 131-122. Michael Porter Jr. scored 22 for the Nets, and Nolan Traore, who rated -2.8 on Impact last season, had 17. Kyshawn George scored 21 and Bilal Coulibaly 19 for the Wizards. Our outlook has Brooklyn at 30 wins, 14th in the East, and Washington at 23, 15th.

Minnesota beat New York 122-104. Anthony Edwards scored 26 and Jaden McDaniels 22 for the Timberwolves. Jalen Brunson had 20 for the Knicks and OG Anunoby 15. Our outlook has both teams at 45 wins: Minnesota fifth in the West, New York sixth in the East.
