Game card: Carolina Panthers 25, Philadelphia Eagles 14, with each team's leader
The Carolina Panthers (2-2), with the NFL's second-best passing offense, visit the Eagles (2-3) on Sunday, October 18, in Philadelphia, where Jalen Hurts is out and Bryce Young faces a pass rush ranked 28th. Kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field is 1:00 PM ET.
Philadelphia allows 248.2 passing yards a game, 23rd in the league, while Carolina averages 316.8. The Eagles' pass rush produces 1.2 sacks a game, 28th, so Young should have time to work.
The Panthers' weakness is against the run. They give up 156.5 rushing yards a game, second-worst in the NFL, but the Eagles average 91.6, 23rd, and their lead back is out.
Philadelphia's offense is the bigger problem, scoring 18.4 points a game, 29th. Carolina's defense allows 27.3, 26th, so the Panthers will likely have to keep scoring to stay ahead.
Young has 1,267 passing yards and nine touchdown passes in his four starts. Tetairoa McMillan leads Carolina with 385 receiving yards. For the Eagles, Dontayvion Wicks has the most receiving yards, 260, and defensive tackle Jalen Carter has three sacks.
Hurts is out, as is running back Saquon Barkley, who had 182 rushing yards in four games. Cornerback Michael Carter II is also out, and six Eagles are out in all. Edge rusher AJ Epenesa is doubtful.
The Panthers list running back AJ Dillon out and tackle Monroe Freeling doubtful. Guard Damien Lewis and linebacker Jaelan Phillips are questionable.
Philadelphia has lost three straight, including 27-7 at Chicago and 19-17 at Jacksonville. Carolina beat Detroit 32-26 last time out and lost 21-18 at Cleveland the game before. Sportsbooks' prices give Carolina a 61% chance to win.
