Sengun scores 29 as Rockets beat Spurs 114-110

Alperen Sengun scored 29 points and the Houston Rockets beat the San Antonio Spurs 114-110 on Friday, October 23, holding off a late push from the home team.

Sengun made 10 of 20 shots and 7 of 8 free throws, and added seven rebounds and seven assists. In the final five minutes he scored on a short jumper and a reverse layup off an Amen Thompson pass, and he went to the line three more times.

Houston (2-0) led 109-106 after De'Aaron Fox's free throws. Victor Wembanyama's alley-oop dunk cut it to one for San Antonio (0-2), and Kevin Durant answered at 1:34 with a 25-foot three-pointer, set up by Sengun, for a 112-108 lead.

Dylan Harper's running dunk at 46.1 seconds made it 112-110. Fred VanVleet made both free throws with 0.6 seconds left to close the scoring.

San Antonio never led by more than a point. Houston's biggest edge was 11, at 41-30 early in the second quarter, but the Spurs won that quarter 33-31 and the game had 14 lead changes.

Wembanyama had 25 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double, but he made 9 of 21 shots. Fox had 19 points and nine assists, along with five turnovers. Harper scored 20 on 8-of-15 shooting.

Thompson also had a double-double for Houston, with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Durant scored 20 and made all eight of his free throws.

At the line, the Rockets made 28 of 31 and the Spurs 18 of 25. San Antonio also made 12 of 37 three-pointers.
