Game card: Orlando Magic 111, New York Knicks 102, with each team's leader
The Orlando Magic (45-37) visit the New York Knicks (53-29), last season's third-best offense, at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, October 25, without top scorer Paolo Banchero. Tip-off is at 7:00 PM ET.
All records and ratings are from last season, with this season's rosters. New York scored 117.5 points per 100 possessions, third in the NBA. Orlando allowed 112, 12th, and its opponents shot 54.5% effective from the field, 17th.
The Knicks also hold the edge on the glass. They grabbed 76.7% of opponent misses, second in the league, and 29.3% of their own, fifth. Orlando's 25% offensive rebounding rate ranked 18th, so second chances will be scarce for the Magic.
Orlando's route is the free-throw line. Its free-throw rate of 0.311 was second in the league; New York's 0.238 was 25th. The Knicks played at the 27th-fastest pace, 98.7, and the Magic at the 12th, 102.
Jalen Brunson led New York with 26 points and 6.8 assists a game, and Karl-Anthony Towns pulled down 11.9 rebounds. Orlando's Jalen Suggs had 5.5 assists and 1.8 steals, and Nikola Vucevic had 8.4 rebounds.
Banchero, who scored 22.2 points a game, is out until Sunday, November 22. Jonathan Isaac is out until Wednesday, October 28, and Noah Penda until Wednesday, November 18. Anthony Black is questionable. For New York, Jose Alvarado is questionable.
Both teams lost their last game. Orlando fell 115-93 at home to Minnesota after a 132-125 loss to Atlanta. New York dropped a 107-103 game at Boston and a 106-100 one against Philadelphia.
Sportsbooks' prices give New York a 72% chance to win. Keel's projection, built from the players available, puts it at 59%, with the Knicks ahead by 2.9 points.
