Game card: Brooklyn Nets 121, Cleveland Cavaliers 125, with each team's leader
The Brooklyn Nets (20-62), who shot worst in the league last season, visit the Cleveland Cavaliers (52-30), owners of the fifth-best offense, on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 PM ET.
Figures are from last season, with this season's rosters. Brooklyn's offensive rating of 106.9 ranked 30th of 30, and its effective field goal percentage of 52 was also last.
The Nets took threes often, sixth in the league in three-point rate, but did not make enough of them to profit. Cleveland's offensive rating of 117 was fifth.
The Cavaliers' effective field goal percentage of 56.1 was fourth. Brooklyn allowed opponents 57.1, 28th in the league, so the shots the Nets give up are ones Cleveland usually hits.
Donovan Mitchell averaged 27.9 points and 1.5 steals for the Cavaliers. James Harden handed out 8 assists a game, and Evan Mobley grabbed 9 rebounds with 1.7 blocks.
Michael Porter Jr. led Brooklyn with 24.2 points and 7.1 rebounds a game. Julius Randle added 5 assists, the team's best average.
Cleveland is without Nae'Qwan Tomlin, Khalifa Diop and Ernest Udeh, Jr., all out. Tomlin averaged 15.7 minutes last season. Brooklyn lists Tyler Bilodeau as out, with a return expected Sunday, October 25.
The Nets lost 110-103 to Charlotte at home in their opener, and the Cavaliers fell 114-106 at Philadelphia. Cleveland finished last season with four straight playoff losses to the New York Knicks.
Sportsbooks' prices give the Cavaliers a 79% chance to win. Keel's projection, built from the players available, has Cleveland at 74%.
