Game card: Golden State Warriors 122, Phoenix Suns 131, with each team's leader
The Golden State Warriors (37-45 last season) bring the NBA's most three-heavy offense to Phoenix on Saturday, October 24, to face a Suns team (45-37) that took the ball away at the league's third-best rate. Tip-off is 10:00 PM ET.
Last season 49.7% of Golden State's shots were threes, the highest share in the league. The Warriors also turned the ball over on 13.3% of their possessions, 27th in the league. Phoenix forced turnovers on 13.9% of opponents' possessions, so loose passes cost Golden State the shots its offense is built on.
The glass adds a second matchup. The Suns rebounded 71.9% of opponents' misses, 27th in the league, so long misses from three can become second chances for a Warriors team that ranked 14th on the offensive boards.
Stephen Curry averaged 26.6 points last season and shot 92.3% at the free-throw line. He is day-to-day. For Phoenix, Devin Booker averaged 26.1 points and 6.0 assists.
Golden State is without Jimmy Butler, Kristaps Porzingis, Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski, all out. Phoenix is missing Mark Williams, last season's team leader in rebounds and blocks at 8.0 and 0.9. Oso Ighodaro is doubtful and Luke Kennard is questionable.
The Warriors have lost their last two, 111-108 to Memphis at home and 127-105 at the Lakers. The Suns' last game was a 124-83 loss at Portland.
Sportsbooks' prices give the Suns a 76% chance to win. Keel's projection, built from the players available, puts it at 72% and favors Phoenix by 7.3 points.
