Keel Stats player card: Kawhi Leonard, Toronto Raptors

Kawhi Leonard, new to the Toronto Raptors, scored 21 points Tuesday, October 13, in a 148-98 preseason win over the New York Knicks. Preseason results do not count and say little, so the interest is in who produced, especially players on new teams.

The regular season starts Tuesday, October 20.

Leonard added 5 rebounds. Last season with the LA Clippers he rated 7.1 on Keel Impact, our plus-minus rating per 100 possessions, where about +2 is a good starter and +5 an All-Star. Scottie Barnes had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Our outlook has Toronto at 48 wins, fourth in the East.

James Wiseman, also new to his team, had 18 points and 10 rebounds for New York. His Impact last season was -1.3, but that came from 59 minutes over four games with the Indiana Pacers, too little to say much.

Our outlook has the Knicks at 45 wins, sixth in the East.

Paolo Banchero had 24 points and 8 rebounds as Orlando beat Cleveland 132-116. His Impact last season was 0.3, about average, so a big line is a good sign for a team our outlook puts at 43 wins, ninth in the East. Franz Wagner added 20 points and 8 assists.

Cleveland, projected at 50 wins and third in the East, got 16 points from Meleek Thomas, new to the team and with no NBA rating from us. Donovan Mitchell, whose Impact was 4.5 last season, had 15 points and 8 assists.

Austin Reaves had 28 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists for the Lakers, who lost 101-89 to the Warriors. His Impact last season was 3.4, between a good starter and an All-Star. Walker Kessler, new to Los Angeles, had 11 points and 9 rebounds; he rated 2.4 in 155 minutes with the Utah Jazz.

Yaxel Lendeborg, new to Golden State and without an NBA rating from us, had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, and Brandin Podziemski also scored 17. Our outlook has the Warriors at 42 wins, seventh in the West, and the Lakers at 40, eighth.

In other games, Oklahoma City beat Indiana 114-112. Jared McCain scored 20 points; his Impact was 0 last season. Tyrese Haliburton, back after missing last season, had 24 points, and Ivica Zubac added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Our outlook has Oklahoma City at 54 wins, second in the West.

Portland beat Sacramento 110-98. Deni Avdija had 26 points and 9 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, and Damian Lillard, back in Portland after missing last season, scored 14. Jonathan Mogbo, new to the Kings, had 15 points and 10 rebounds; his Impact was -0.9 last season with the Toronto Raptors.
