Jerome scores 31 as Grizzlies beat Kings 123-112

Memphis went 24-of-27 at the line and outscored Sacramento's bench 32-19 to stay unbeaten, despite 37 points from Zach LaVine.

Ty Jerome scored 31 points and made all 14 of his free throws as the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Sacramento Kings 123-112 on Sunday, sending the Kings to their third straight loss.

Jerome shot 8-of-17 and had six assists. Memphis (3-0) took control with an 11-0 run in the second quarter that made it 41-33, and it led by 14 in the third.

Sacramento (0-3) had led by six, 28-22, in the first quarter. Memphis outscored the Kings 42-31 in the second and reached its biggest lead, 83-69, in the third.

Sacramento cut into the margin in the fourth, but a 10-0 Memphis run made it 116-106. Zach LaVine answered with a 16-foot jumper and a driving layup for 117-110 with 3:03 left.

Cameron Boozer dunked off a Jaylen Wells pass, and Wells added a floater and a layup for 123-110 with 1:10 to go. Domantas Sabonis closed the scoring with a layup at 7.0 seconds.

LaVine led all scorers with 37 points on 13-of-25 shooting and went 8-of-8 at the line. Darius Acuff Jr. had 22 points and seven assists on 9-of-23 shooting, and Sabonis finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds.

The teams shot the same effective field goal percentage, 52.1, so the gap came elsewhere. Memphis made 24 of 27 free throws to Sacramento's 14 of 22, and Precious Achiuwa went 0-of-6. The Grizzlies' bench outscored the Kings' bench 32-19.

Boozer had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Cedric Coward had 15 points and 11 rebounds, a double-double each. Wells shot 6-of-7 for 16 points.
