Game card: Charlotte Hornets at Detroit Pistons, Wed, Oct 28, 7:00 PM
The Charlotte Hornets (3-1), first in three-point rate, visit the Detroit Pistons (3-1), who allow the second-lowest effective field goal percentage, on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 PM ET.
Charlotte takes 49.9% of its shots from three, the league's highest rate, yet its effective field goal percentage of 49 ranks 26th. Detroit allows opponents 48.5, second best, so each miss from deep feeds a defense that squeezes.
Offensive rebounding is the Hornets' outlet. They grab 33.9% of their misses, third in the league, and Moussa Diabate averages 5.5 offensive boards. Detroit is fifth at 32.6%, so second chances cut both ways.
Cade Cunningham runs Detroit at 20.8 points and eight assists a game, and Paul Reed leads the Pistons with 8.5 rebounds. For Charlotte, Brandon Miller scores 24.3 a night on 37% shooting, and Dennis Schroder hands out 4.5 assists.
Kon Knueppel (31.4 minutes a game), Coby White (24.2) and Grant Williams (19) are out for Charlotte, each expected back Monday, November 2. Two more Hornets are out as well.
Detroit is without center Jalen Duren, who plays 28.2 minutes and is out until Monday, November 9. Isaiah Joe is day-to-day.
The Hornets have won two straight, 110-103 over Washington and 115-110 over Miami, after an 81-128 home loss to Atlanta. Detroit lost 111-97 at New York in its last game after winning its first three.
Sportsbooks' prices give Detroit a 67.7% chance to win. Keel's projection, built from the players available, puts it at 57.5%, with a margin of 2.4 points.
