Tyler Herro scored 25 points in his Milwaukee debut season as the Bucks beat the Indiana Pacers 128-127 on Friday, October 16, in a preseason night that turned on newcomers and rookies.

Preseason results do not count, so the interest is in who produced and where. The regular season starts Tuesday, October 20.

Herro, new to the Bucks, added 3 rebounds and 3 assists. His Keel Impact last season, with Miami, was 0.5. Impact is our plus-minus rating per 100 possessions: 0 is average. Rookie Brayden Burries had 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

Pascal Siakam scored 24 for Indiana. Tyrese Haliburton had 17 points and 6 assists after not playing last season; he last played in 2024-25. Our outlook has the Bucks at 33 wins, 11th in the East, and the Pacers at 31, 12th.

Golden State beat Portland 128-118. Stephen Curry scored 20 with 5 assists, and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg had 17 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Curry's Impact last season was 3.5, between a good starter and an All-Star.

Damian Lillard led Portland with 23 points. He did not play last season and last played in 2024-25, with Milwaukee. Ja Morant, new to the Blazers, scored 19; his Impact with Memphis last season was 0.1. Our outlook has Golden State at 42 wins, seventh in the West, and Portland at 39, ninth.

Detroit beat Toronto 129-125 behind 18 points and 7 assists from Cade Cunningham. Our outlook projects the Pistons at 55 wins and first in the East.

Malachi Smith, new to the Raptors, led Toronto with 24 points and 7 rebounds. His Impact last season, with Brooklyn, was -0.1. Trayce Jackson-Davis added 23 points after posting -0.7 last season.

Denver beat the Lakers 121-106. Nikola Jokic had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. His Impact of 7.9 last season sits well above our All-Star mark of +5.

Austin Reaves scored 19 for Los Angeles and Luka Doncic 15. Our outlook has Denver at 48 wins, third in the West, and the Lakers at 40, eighth.

Hawks 135, Mavericks 111: Cooper Flagg had 26 points and 12 rebounds in defeat. Zaccharie Risacher, new to Dallas, scored 18 after an Impact of -1.3 with Atlanta.

Grizzlies 117, Hornets 98: rookie Cameron Boozer had 19 points and 7 rebounds for Memphis. Charlotte rookie Hannes Steinbach had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Bulls 133, Timberwolves 116: rookie Caleb Wilson scored 16 for Chicago, and Minnesota rookie Isaiah Evans scored 21.

Pelicans 107, Wizards 106: Jeremiah Fears, whose Impact was -2.2 last season, had 14 points, 5 assists and 3 steals.
