Hold calculator
The hold is the share of the money staked on a market that a sportsbook keeps when the action is balanced. Enter the price of every outcome of a two-way market (a moneyline, an over/under) or a three-way one (win, draw, win).
Worked example −110 on both sides implies 52.38% each, 104.76% together. The overround is 4.76%, and the hold is 1 − 1 ÷ 104.76% = 4.55%.
- Implied chances added up
- 104.76%
- Overround

- Hold

| Outcome | Implied chance | Fair chance |
|---|---|---|
| Outcome 1 | 52.38% | 50.00% |
| Outcome 2 | 52.38% | 50.00% |
How it works
Overround = the implied chances added up, minus 100%. It measures the margin against a fair book, where they add up to exactly 100%.
Hold = 1 − 1 ÷ the implied chances added up. It is the share of all stakes the book keeps when each outcome is backed in proportion to its chance, a little lower than the overround.
A lower hold is a cheaper market. A hold below zero means the implied chances add up to less than 100%, which happens when the prices come from different books.
